Korean Translation Practice Infinite Last Romeo

So Infinite has release their second full album entitled “Season 2” which I guess is supposed to symbolize a transition into a new era of music. Upon hearing this and the name of the title track “Last Romeo” I was pretty worried but this song is as Infinite as can be. I’m sure it will draw some comparisons to “The Chaser” because of the look and the sound but also the lyrics to “Last Romeo” has some the traditional Korean grammar that “The Chaser” was known for. Those being-으리, -거라 and -다오.

-으리-Shows you’re determination or will to do something. Ex. I will, I shall…
-거라-Used for commands Ex. 해라 Do…
-다오-Used for polite demands 어/여 주세요. Please do..
This is basically about a guy willing to do whatever it takes to become the last guy she will ever love, therefore her “Last Romeo”.

I don’t care if you are a poisoned chalice
I shall accept you willingly.
There’s no sweeter and stronger temptation than you.
You shine so brightly that you swallow up the darkness and blind me with your light.
Even the darkness grows weak in your presence. All I need is you.

Show me the way.
Like it or not my mind is set on you.
I will risk everything I have.
I will protect you
even if it becomes a cumbersome journey.
I can’t see anything but you.

This is a musical tragedy composed by distorted conventions.
Shoving me into desolation
It’s the prelude to a love that is falling apart.
I’m Gonna Lose Myself
That Was Sweet Start
I don’t know how to stop it.
My emotions having reached the end just continue rise up.
You and I are a delusion turned reality,
Got The Top Of The Emotion
Even when the flowers wilt and get carried away
and the moon tilts and disappears
My feelings won’t change.
I love you, I love you.
You embrace my sinful lips with yours and intoxicate me with your scent.
No reward can be more potent than this.

Show me the way.
Like or not my mind is set on you.
I will risk everything I have.
I will protect you.
Even if it becomes a cumbersome journey.
World, look at me. Please let me win.
Sun, rise. Give me strength.
Destiny, listen to me. Don’t block my path.
I will protect her.
For you, I’ll become that last man that will fight against the world over this one love.
For you, I can face any threat. All need is you.
Show me the way. Like it or not
my mind is set on you.
I will risk everything I have.
I will protect you
Even if it becomes a cumbersome journey.

I can’t see anything but you.
I can’t see anything but you.
I can’t see anything but you.
Just like a maze you are complex.
Why do you keep pushing me away? Trust me.
너의 Romeo
I’m you’re Romeo.
I have nothing but you.

Korean Translation Practice Song Ji Eun 미친거니(Are you Crazy) feat Bang Yong Guk

I really like this song and the flow of the rap even though the lyrics are really creepy-stalkerish. It paints a sinister story of a girl that is fed up with a guy because he’s crazy and suffocating. The delusional guy is obsessed with her and thinks his love is rational. He follows her around and her rejection and the chase seems to spur him on even giving him a sense of satisfaction which I note is pretty sick.

미친거니 means “Are you insane/crazy/ Have you lost your mind?

미치다 here is the adjective for crazy.

는/은 것이다 is used to make statements and questions more emphatic. For example if you were just casually asking someone “what are you doing(today/right now etc)?” you would just say ” 뭐해?” or “뭐해요?”  But if you caught someone doing something they shouldn’t be like going through your things you would say “뭐하는 거야?” “뭐 하는 거예요?” in an accusatory voice. The naunce word be more like “What do you think you are doing?” What the hell do you think you’re doing?”.

니 not is an interrogatory ending(not 으니/으니까  just verb/adjective +니) more commonly used my females to talk to people really close to them or people younger than them. So, if it’s used to someone older than them or someone you are not close with it will sound condescending.

So “미친거니?” is more abrasive and rude than “미쳤어?”

It isn’t love.
This isn’t love.
This is nothing but your obsession.
Wherever I am, whatever I do I’m afraid because you’re watching me.

I stalk your shadow and call you and I get thrilled by the sound of your breath shaking on the phone
My heart races faster with the quickening of your footsteps. I feel like I’m gonna go crazy. This long night is growing darker.
I’m watching you from underneath the blown out streetlamp in front of your house, from the crack in your bedroom window.
Hurry up, try to find me before the night ends. Keep on playing this stifling game of hide and seek with me.
You can never get away from me.

Are you insane?
Why are you acting this way?
Just stop leave me alone.
I can see you. It’s suffocating. Just disappear.

Rap
You can never escape from me. You have no choice but to love me.
(I don’t wanna see you)
Go ahead and try to run because I can see you no matter where you are.  I know you deep down.
You can never escape from me. You have no choice but to love me.
(I Don’t Wanna Cry No More more)
Now look at me. (I don’t wanna cry no more more)
I Don’t Wanna Cry No More more

Disappear. Just go away. I really can’t breathe.
Wherever I go, wherever I am I’m afraid because you follow me.

Hundreds ,thousands of times I called you but WHY WHY don’t you answer?
Did you forget?  It’s already the 1000th day since we’ve first met. I’ve prepared a present that you’d like.
I’m sitting here on the street you usually pass by. I’m waiting for you. Do you understand my love for you?
Don’t call it an obsession. You don’t know how love works. Don’t call me crazy. You don’t know how I feel.
You can never get away from me.

Are you insane?
Why are you acting this way?
Just stop leave me alone.
I can see you. It’s suffocating. Just Disappear.

You know you want me too.
You know that you love me.
Don’t run from me.

Stop talking like that and get a hold of yourself. Just stop it. Let me go now.
This isn’t right. This isn’t love (it’s not). You’re only hurting me. Don’t do this.
I used to love you but not any more. Just forget me please.
I Don’t Wanna Cry No More.

Korean Translation Practice Wheesung Insomnia

Wheesung released Insomnia in 2009 after being requested by the original artist David Craig to record a Korean version which is pretty awesome. The song is about a person falling in love but is also afraid to because they might be rejected and they feel that love is a trap. This is worsened because they became obsessed to the point where they couldn’t fall asleep and becomes an insomniac. Therefore, he or she compares love to a sickness.

The Korean word for Insomnia is “불면증”. 불() means “not, nothing, absence of”. 면(眠)  means sleeping or resting. We know that 자다 means to sleep but Sino-Korean word for it is 수면. 증(症) means symptoms as in 증세.

Love, Love, Love, Love

But that path is full of traps traps traps.

삐딱하게 is a song of G- Dragon’s 2nd album entitled Coup d’ etat. 비딱하게 means “crooked” or “crookedly” and GD utilizes it to describe how the narrator’s behavior has changed. Ever since they got dumped they started doing crazy, off the wall things to make their ex feel ashamed or sorry for leaving them.

기러기 is the Korean word for goose and seems it can be interpreted as a metaphor for lonely people. One of the explanations I found stated it was because geese flying the skies alone portrays a sense of loneliness and when they are together it looks like they provide comfort to each other. Also, as some might know, when a goose loses it’s mate it isolates itself and may not seek another mate. In Korean there’s even a phrase called 기러기 아버지/아빠 or Father Goose usually used to describe father’s who work overseas and live alone; rarely seeing their families.

I just wanted to note that this is probably my first time seeing 마냥 used correctly k-pop lyrics. It’s correct usage is similar to 항상 or 계속meaning forever or 실컷 meaning to one’s content. I mostly see it used in the same way 처럼 or 같이 would be.
